Grout Cleaners and Sealers Can Do the Magic


Grout cleaners can make your floors, sink and bathroom walls nice again. Cleaning materials and tools for tiles and grout varies, depending on how serious the stain stays. You can actually hire experts to do this job or you can learn to do it your own.

Using ceramic tiles in your house can bring elegance. But when molds and mildews start to cripple into its grout, this will bring unattractive look to your house. Plus, they can be a good source of germs and bacteria. Don’t let them conquer your tiled floors, sink and bathroom.

Here are some DIY (do-it-yourself) and homemade grout cleaners that works perfectly.

Mild Cleaner

What you need?

  • Salt
  • Baking Soda
  • Water
  • Lemons
  • Soft brush
  • Sponge


  1. Wet the tiles and grout.
  2. Combine salt and baking soda. Add water just enough to make a sticky paste.
  3. Apply it to tiles and grout and scrub the paste until stains are starting to remove.
  4. Use a wet sponge to wipe it off.
  5. If have discoloration problem, apply it with lemon juice. Let it stay for at least ten to fifteen minutes.
  6. Wash it with clean water and dry it off with a towel.

Harsh Cleaner

What you need?

  • Liquid Chlorine Bleach
  • Water
  • Hand Gloves and Goggles
  • Spray bottle
  • Toothbrush and stiff-bristled brush


  1. The place must be properly ventilated. As much as possible, keep away your kids or any member of the family that has respiratory problems. Chemicals can harm health.


  1. Mix the bleach and water and put it in a spray bottle.
  2. Wet the tiles and grout.
  3. Spray the solution on the grout and let it be for a few minutes.
  4. Using the brushes, scrub the discoloration and dirt off that has been dissolved by the bleach and water solution.
  5. Clean it well with water and dry it with a towel

Sealing Grout To Prevent Nasty Look

Putting on sealant (otherwise known as grout sealing) the final step you should do to preserve your tile. If you do not want to do repetitive cleaning of your dirty grout, then take an hour or two to seal your grout. But before sealing the grout, make sure you considering some things.

First, you need to prepare the tile and grout. It needs at least two days before you apply the sealant. Also, wipe away the dirt, dust and any other liquid components so that they will not be sealed with the tile and grout. It should be totally dry because sealant cannot stick firmly if they are wet.

Sealant are highly penetrable to fill up the small holes and gaps. They can guarantee longer life expentancy of the grout because they also prevents it from wear and tear or certain damages.

It is best to get a high class grout sealant. Though they maybe a little expensive yet its performance is worth the cost. Do not forget the tools you needed when installing them. You may need a small spray bottle and a paintbrush. Just spray it on the tile and grout and spread it with a paintbrush. Secure also the necessary protective gears such as goggles or any protective eyewear and a pair of gloves. It is also recommended to test the sealant first in an obsolete place in order to prevent accidents.

After applying the sealant, let it dry for at least five minutes. Clean off the excess sealants with a sponge or paper towels. After an hour or two, apply the sealant again with the same procedure. It is good to apply sealant twice to acquire the best result.

You also need to clean it at least twice a month. But this kind of cleaning is not the same as cleaning nasty grout. You just need to sweep off some dust. No need to do deep scrubbing with harsh chemical elements.
