On Demand Hot Water - Day 1
We are on our first day of having running hot water in our home in nearly a year. Despite being a all day event on Sunday I'm really happy with how smoothly the water heater install went. In about one month we can see the impact on our gas bill that having a tiny 2 gallon flash hot water heater has on our gas bill.

Have you considered the possibility of solar heated water, especially in your southern latitude? They have some pretty rad roof-top modules. - A.
Also the evacuated models are pretty rad also.
I do like those evacuated models. We have a heavy set of solar water panels that are damaged. Even a huge solar water tank with internal circulation for antifreeze. It would be a real effort to plumb it in and mount it all on a trailer. I'm not sure it's worth it, but we will know a little more after our first gas bill comes in.
I'm really looking forward to the cost analysis. Mark keeps lobbying for on-demand hot water, and he argues that it might actually be more energy efficient than our method (heating up pots on the electric stove as needed). So maybe your numbers will give Mark what he's been craving. :-)
I am also interested in the cost-analysis, currently debating between one of these units and a solar setup.
