Our two apricot and peach trees have already started opening their buds. This is scary because our last freeze could be as late as April 15th and the high winds have already begun. The arugula and cauliflower are already bolting.
We have the same situation with the nectarine and almond, although not the pears. There are some tips in this PDF from the NMSU extension service. Some of the ideas seem counterintuitive. It appears that the choice of where to plant the tree is important. This is good information, but doesn't help much for trees that are already established in the ground.
