My First CNC

My First CNC

I spent the last few days slowly assembling my little CNC. This is the 7x7 sold by Zen Tool Works and marketed as the "most affordable CNC". The assembly was super easy as Zen provided a 50 manual with clear documentation of all the parts and steps. I'm amazed at how many of my friends have been trying to build their own CNCs when something this inexpensive is available and only takes a few days to put together.

I am anxious to see how you like it, and how good its accuracy is, We have a few folks up here at our hackerspace who are thinking making one, and Ray has discovered exactly how much slop there is in Harbor Freight's x/y access vice (he wound up returning it rather than trying to work with the inaccuracy it caused.

One of our members also has been perpetually tinkering with a makerbot, which has proven to be a cantankerous project build. (i think as soon as he gets the replacement feed wheel for his extruder we might actually get our first 3d print done.
