A ripe banana in a paper bag with the tomatoes will speed up the process considerably with smaller batches you want ripened.
Ripe bananas emit small amounts of ethylene, which is the plant hormone that causes ripening. Yes ethylene is a gas... what can I say? Nature is weird. If it can be done and it works... then nature will use it.
I'm not suggesting you put a ripe banana straight in the box since I'm sure you don't want them all ripened at once.
