Rainwater Harvesting is Catching On

Wendy and I didn't know anyone in town who was catching rain water until last year. Now The Bountiful Alliance brought in 11 tanks of 1000 gallon capacity for low income home owners. Our neighbor Barbara just got her 1000 gallon tank hooked up this week. Nice to see these around town.

Shame they weren't installed a week sooner with all the rain you have had. They'd be halfway full by now.

Frankly, in an arid to semiarid location, I am surprised that water collection cisterns or tanks aren't mandatory for all homes, in case of drought.

Yeah, this neighbor missed out on a good 4" of rain in the last two weeks. The sad thing was the tank was in place, but the gutter needed to be run from the roof to the tank. At least it got setup for this new set of storms kicking in tonight and tomorrow which could be significant.

It would be nice if these tanks were mandatory. There are some programs now in Albuquerque where the city will pay for some of the grey water and rain water gear as long as it is bought new. Tucson has a similar program. I don't think there is anything state wide, but that is what we need next.
