You blog readers are so observant. Someone wrote yesterday, "where's the shade cloth that's supposed to go up along with the reed?" We had to mod it a tad, make it stronger. And now. . . finally. . . 3 months into the project, we have our shade structure much like we designed it. Whew. Today, we test the level of darkness with a laptop. Can we work outside on the wi-fi?

A string or two of solar powered LED "christmas lights" (for lack of a better term) hung between the reed mat layer and the fabric shade might make for some interesting nighttime ambiance.
I have one length of 70 lights that I've strung down the stairs to the back yard, ...so more for practical purposes in my case, but it works quite well.
Just a random idea I thought I'd share.
