
Sealing Up the Shade Posts

The upper beams of our latest shade structure were wide open after we made our cuts. This would allow birds, insects and even water to make it's way into our beams which is not desirable. We decided to spend the day cleaning up some old sheet metal to make custom plates for the end of the shade.

What model of saw is that? What blade do you use, and what thickness can it cut? I didn't even realize that there was a circular saw that could cut steel plate!
Any framing saw will do for cutting thin steel plate. We are working with something like 1/16" thick stuff. I just use a $4 abrasive wheel available from any hardware store or welding supply.
