Q-Tip disaster

I had a friend rupture her ear drum this summer. However, she bumped her elbow while using the q-tip and it got stuck in her ear. It caused permanent hear loss. I hope the case is not the same for Wendy.

I've had many ear infections from my own over zealous use of Q-tips. My advice would be to give it a few days but if it begins to swell or become painful I'd see a western doc ASAP. Ruptured ear drums can heal themselves, but it'd be a good idea to at least have a look in the ear canal and know what's going on. I have hearing loss in one of my ears from repeated infections and it really is a hinderance in a lot of situations, don't mess around!

hard to tell on the photo, any idea where the wound is? all the way in on the diaphragm? in the canal?

most likely its a scrape on the canal. and will heal in a few days.

be careful poking things in places!

Infection in this area should be avoided. Hydrogen peroxide rinse every day until healed. If warmth developes, get anti-biotics, the pain of a burst ear drum is unforgetable ouch

Get a doc to look at it as soon as practical. Hearing is too important to bother mucking around. Now, whether you take the doc's advice, or just take their observations (they have great gear, of course, for looking in ears and such places) and research on that basis is another question!

Don't ever put anything smaller than your ~E~L~B~O~W~ into your ear ... at least that's the advice I always heard. Take it easy on yourself, Wendy!

Its funny because the only thing people use Q tips for it says not to do on the box. Its like christmas lights that say FOR INDOOR/OUTDOOR USE ONLY.
