Pineapple tomatillos!

Wow, the pineapple tomotillos I got at a seed swap in town are ripe and they taste exactly like pineapple! This is surely the prize of this years garden. Next up will be our melons, squash, purple okra and sesame. I'm still picking a couple of pounds of tomatoes every other day. Yahoooo! Pineapple Tomatillos

I bought some of those from Victory Seed Co.... But they called them ground cherries / cossack pineapples. They sure were tasty!

Those look like the plant we call ground cherries 'round these parts. Our CSA farm has them all over the grounds. They are one of the forms of "payment" for taking a turn at weeding. It seems they produce volunteers like crazy. But what a tasty "weed" to have!!

Mmm, these are yummy, volunteer like crazy, and are known by many names: husk cherry, ground cherry, cape gooseberries, husk tomato, poha (here in Hawaii where they make jam out of it regularly), capulin in it's native Peru, and goldenberry to all the raw/superfood enthusiasts. It is related to the tomatillos, tomatos, peppers, and potatoes in the nightshade family.

I use to snack on them while walking along the banks of the Huacapishtea river tributary of the Amazon in Peru, looking for wild Capybara who probably fed on them too.

Glad they're doing well in you're area, a nice garden treat!
