We believe this to be the correct way to store garlic for the long term. Let it dry out before putting any water on it to clean it up.

Hey - My name is Kate and I'm a Mainer who has been following your blog for awhile. I work at an organic farm in the summer (www.morningdeworganic.com) and they specialize in garlic. You are correct in not washing it - but you can clean it up a bit after it dries. You can trim the roots with scissors and gently scrub the bulbs with an old toothbrush. It doesn't take all the dirt off, but it does make them look less gnarly. You can also braid them too. It looks kinda cool and is a huge space saver.
Thanks Kate. You saved us from embarrassing ourselves in front of guests with our filthy garlic.
Filthy garlic is definitely an entertaining don't.
do tell more about how you grew the garlic & about the screening....JoTee
