I won this horseradish root on ebay. I could not believe how hard it was to find! It seems that no one sells horseradish root. Does anyone know how to plant it. Do I break up what appears to be four different outgrowths and plant them separately? Or plant this cluster as is in one clump?

thanks for the link!!!
Hey Wendy, you can buy horseradish roots at Simmons Plant Farm (http://www.simmonsplantfarm.com) for a really great price. That root looks awesome, though!
You might want to plant that whole this year, and get it established. Then whack it in pieces in the fall for next year.
Make sure you have good ventilation when you grate it. It's way strong!
OK, I haven't looked at the links that others posted, but the horseradish reminds me of how my Iris's look when they need to be divided, so I am going to say divide those babies and plant them at least 6" apart...
I love horseradish. That is one of the new perennials I am looking forward to planting this year myself. Thanks for posting this.
It will be very interesting to see how your horseradish does in NM. Here in BC is is so wildly invasive nobody would dream of actually planting it - getting rid of it is more likely the problem. You could probably plant that root upside down, hacked into a bunch of shreds and you would get more horseradish that you would ever want.
I sell organic horseradish. we have 85 acres and sell it commerically! I can certainly answer any questions. I'm also writing a cookbook: 365 Things To Do With Roseradish. Let me know if you're interested!
