I went ahead and painted my solar distiller black this morning. One of
the nice things about painting such a device is I can just place a
window on it and cover it so the paint stays nice and warm to setup
well. I still need to insulate below the window with some rubber
weather stripping. There is also a need for a catch tray on the bottom
for the distilled water. I was planning to build the catch tray into
the original design, but got distracted and made this giant bird bath
instead. I feel like there is a lot of potential for such a device to
be a good:
1. solar distiller
2. sun oven
3. solar water heater
4. solar space heater
Lets see what I can rig up to make it a good distiller.

i was thinking of a design for one recently and had the notion of a drip-edge on the underside of the glass that is plumbed out the side so you water can be delivered right to your cistern. maybe using a piece of pvc split lengthwise for drip-edge and coming out the side into a whole piece of pvc. hmmmm...
I used a tray made of the same cement mortar on my last version. I found that my tray didn't have enough slope so the water would sit in the tray and re-evaporate. On this one I will probably just use a split piece of PVC and tilt it so it can run out to a PVC adapter and drain into a bottle of some sort.
