My first liter of biodiesel after settling overnight. I had used 5 parts oil 1 part methanol which is a little higher than I need for my canola oil. I can get away with as little as 1 part methanol to 9 parts oil. Looks pretty good, right? I have not tried driving on it yet. I'm not worried about driving with it. Just looking for a good methanol resource to brew a 10 gallon batch.

A good source of methanol is from a racetrack or drag strip. It is used as race gas in cars with alcohol motors. I get it for $3.95 a gallon in Denver. I've always been hesitant to store a 55 gallon drum of methanol at my house, purchasing by the gallon ensures I only get fresh stuff and only what I need.
thx, good to know what you are paying for it in CO. Looks like my nearest resource will be the next town over (about 70 miles). They have a racing store that I believe sells it.
I too don't want to carry the 55 gallon drum size. Since I primarily drive on WVO I should be able to go for a year on 5 gallons of methanol for small biodiesel mixes in my starter tank.
