I did a quick trip to Las Cruces, NM today to pickup some methanol and had lunch with a very interesting Maker I met on-line.
I was able to pickup the methanol for $4 a gallon at Rick's Performance Center. You will need to purchase one of their containers for repeated fill ups. I came home and immediately mixed up a mini batch of B99 using:
- 10 liters of WVO
- 70g of lye
- 2 liters of methanol
The mix is settling now, but looks promising. I expect to save $3.19 on every gallon of B99 I produce instead of buying diesel. As usual I do not include my cost of labor.

Be sure to check the pH of that biodiesel before putting it in your car. Sometimes you can get very acidic, especially if you let it sit for a long time before burning it. Storing might work better without washing, and then wash right before use.
Your older diesel is probably less sensitive than the newer ones anyhow.
BTW: love the blog, been lurking on it for a few weeks now.
